What metal is used as points on an engagement ring? Or any ring for that matter?

I've been looking at the designs and my heart ring put on a pink or yellow gold setting. But I realized that even though the metal used in the ring is rose gold or yellow teeth used are not yellow or rose gold. The points looked like any of platinum, silver or white gold. The ring would look good from above but from the side looked a bit out of me because the color of the tooth and the band does not match.
