What if an engagement ring is gold or silver?

I want a purpose to my girlfriend and I have been looking for an engagement ring. all boys I have not proposed with a ring of silver but I have my heart set on a beautiful gold ring. What does it matter if the ring is gold or silver?

Silver is not suitable for major long-term parts as an engagement ring. It would be better with gold. Even better, palladium or platinum.
